“I am looking forward to working with this team as we change our culture and go about becoming one of the better teams in our area,” head coach Rick Ferchen said. “I’m excited to see what we’re able to do and we should be markedly better in nearly every aspect of the game this year. We are talented with our hitters and both our defense and our pitching should be much better. We will be a tough team.”– Rick Ferchen, Head Coach

Keuka StormFresh off its winningest season since 2006, expectations are high for Keuka College.
Under first-year head coach Rick Ferchen, who has amassed more than 700 wins in 30 seasons coaching at Valparaiso, Hobart College and Oneonta State, the Storm are hoping to build on last year’s successes.
The Storm (12-19 record) batted .305, led by Jon Borchert (Upper Arlington, OH/Upper Arlington), a third-team All-Region first baseman who equaled the school record for home runs in a season (7) and set school records for runs batted in (42), slugging percentage (.701) and total bases (82) in 2013.
Including Borchert, seven student-athletes batted .305 or better in 2013. Senior Justyn Shuck batted .385, sophomore Billy McDermott hit .359, senior Gavin Corbin batted .348, sophomore Tom Fowler hit .321, sophomore Kyle Dailey batted .317, and senior Kyle McVannan sported a .306 average.
Schuck and Corbin each earned spots on the All-NEAC West Division’s second-team.
Schuck, an infielder, led in batting average, on-base (.385), percentage (.472) and runs scored (32). His .385 batting average was the fourth-highest in school history. Corbin started all 29 games and batted .358 with 1 home run, 31 RBI and 31 runs scored.
Pitching is one area Ferchen hopes to see improvement. Keuka sported a 9.11 team ERA, but there is some talent returning. McVannan went 3-6 with a 4.80 ERA and four complete games while senior Jeremy Pyszczynski (Alden, NY/St. Mary’s) was 3-3 with a 6.97 ERA and four complete games.
Keuka opens the season March 15 against Mount Aloysius College.
