“I think fans can expect to watch a good brand of baseball. We’ll play hard every day, we’ll run a hard 90 down to first, we’ll make the routine plays and we’ll do all the little things right. We have the best schedule we’ve ever had at Vassar, but we’ll compete every day, and I expect good things out of our club.” – Jon Martin, Head Coach

Vassar College BrewersThe Vassar College baseball team returns a strong nucleus from the 2013 squad that qualified for the 2013 Liberty League playoffs. The 18 wins in 2013 were the second-most in program history, and the squad in 2014 is poised to get back to where it was last season. Going into the year, the Brewers were selected tied for fourth in the conference, but expectations are certainly higher.

Offensively, Vassar returns one of the best hitters in the league in senior first baseman Brett Zaziski. After posting a .449 batting clip last year to go with 19 doubles, Zaziski will hope to repeat on the campaign that helped him garner All-Liberty League laurels. The middle of the lineup will be bolstered by sophomores Brooks English and Nick Johnson, while junior shortstop Jason Garfinkel and seniors Dave Robbins and Parker Werline each have hit over .300 in recent seasons.
The pitching staff in 2014 welcomes back a strong core off of last year’s squad that was one of the best groups in the League. Senior ace Joe Lovizio returns to anchor the group, as he tossed a team-leading six complete games last year. Sophomores Jonathan Hong and Johnny Mrlik each had solid seasons last year in a starting role, and reliever Connor Cucalon was named All-Liberty League as a freshman in 2013. Freshman Trent Berg and Adam Erkis are also names to watch out for, as both will surely see time in a starting role for Vassar College.
