“This will be one of the most cohesive, athletic, and talented team we have fielded in years. We lost some key players from last season, but have added some very talented freshmen to build upon.” – Albert Baez, Head Coach

yeshiva-slideshow_largeThe Yeshiva baseball program is looking to build a bright future in 2014. With a large recruiting class along with with a group of talented returnees, the Maccabees are anticipating the first of many steps toward a team to be reckoned with for years to come. Under second year head coach, Albert Baez, Yeshiva baseball is expected to compete and build upon last season’s new direction.

The Maccabees will play a tough schedule as Yeshiva will vie for a pair of conference titles including a slew of games against highly skilled teams from the Skyline Conference, which include two games each against Mt. St. Mary’s, Farmingdale State, NYU Poly, Purchase College, St. Joseph’s-Long Island, Maritime College, Mount St. Vincent’s and the College at Old Westbury. The Maccabees will also compete against top shelf programs from City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) where they will square off against the College of Staten Island, Baruch College, Lehman College, the City College of New York, John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Stevens Institute of Technology. Yeshiva will also battle St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn in a non league game.

Though the Maccabees lost key talent from last year’s team, the returnees this year along with talented newcomers should provide sufficient depth to compensate for a talented group lost to graduation. Top returnees will include Jake Frankel, Zev Weisinger, Jonathan Berger and Benjamin Blumenthal, while hot newcomers who are expected to contribute big include Elan Paul, Mendel Osdoba, Zev Friend, Jake Litwin, Sam Rhodes and Zachary Perl.
